John Stanley, Verdun's first publican, built the original Maximilian's Homestead in 1851. His Stanley Bridge Tavern was erected to serve the area's railway workers. The Farmhouse was his home. The 36-acre property was a dairy when Maximilian, and wife Louise, purchased it in 1974. Maximilian's Restaurant opened to rave reviews, early in 1976. Maximilian's Vineyard was planted in 1994, with the classic varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The 20-acre site lies in the heart of the Onkaparinga Valley, where winemaking dates back to 1839. After decades of affiliation with the local Wine Industry, Maximilian began production of his own premium wine with the 1997 Vintage. Hardly a day goes by, when you won't find Max working in the Vines.

Maximilian's aim is to produce wines of complexity and finesse. Optimum quality is obtained through intensive vineyard management and expert winemaking. At the Verdun Cellar Door, special bottlings of Max's wines are available, along with the range of estate grown wines.
